An Error - Theory of ConsciousnessDon PerlisDepartment

چکیده
I argue that consciousness is an aspect of an agent's intelligence, hence of its ability to deal adaptively with the world. In particular, it allows for the possibility of noting and correcting the agent's own errors. This in turn requires a robust self model as part of its world model, as well as the capability to come to see that world model as residing in its belief base (part of its self model), while then representing the actual world as possibly di erent, i.e., forming a new world model. This suggests particular computational mechanisms by which consciousness occurs, ones that conceivably could be discovered by neuroscientists, as well as built into arti cial systems that may need such capabilities. Consciousness, then, would not be an epiphenomenon at all, but rather a key part of the functional architecture of suitably intelligent agents, hence amenable to study as much as any other architectural feature.

متن کاملA new method for calculating earthquake characteristics and nonlinear spectra using wavelet theory
In the present study using the wavelet theory (WT) and later the nonlinear spectrum response of the acceleration (NSRA) resulted in estimating a strong earthquake record for the structure to a degree of freedom. WT was used in order to estimate the acceleration of earthquake mapping with equal sampling method (WTESM). Therefore, at first, the acceleration recorded in an earthquake using WTESM w...
متن کاملScore Generalizability of Writing Assessment: the Effect of Rater’s Gender
The score reliability of language performance tests has attracted increasing interest. Classical Test Theory cannot examine multiple sources of measurement error. Generalizability theory extends Classical Test Theory to provide a practical framework to identify and estimate multiple factors contributing to the total variance of measurement. Generalizability theory by using analysis of variance ...
متن کاملTESTING FOR AUTOCORRELATION IN UNEQUALLY REPLICATED FUNCTIONAL MEASUREMENT ERROR MODELS
In the ordinary linear models, regressing the residuals against lagged values has been suggested as an approach to test the hypothesis of zero autocorrelation among residuals. In this paper we extend these results to the both equally and unequally replicated functionally measurement error models. We consider the equally and unequally replicated cases separately, because in the first case the re...

Due to the reduction of renewable energy resources such as fossil fuels, the energy crisis is one of the most critical issues in today’s world.
